What happened
Oman and Pakistan will decide the Plate title at the Hong Kong International Sixes on Sunday, 1 November. The match at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok was scheduled to start at 11:45am IST. The Plate is the second-tier competition for teams that did not reach the Cup semi-finals, while the main title will be decided between Australia and Afghanistan.
Both finalists arrive in strong form. On Saturday, Oman chased down Sri Lanka's 92 for 5 with only one wicket lost, needing 4.4 of their six overs, according to the Cricbuzz scorecard. Zohaib Amanat scored 43 not out from 13 balls, and seamer Muzahir Raza, who took 2 for 27, was named Player of the Match.
Pakistan were even quicker in the second semi-final. Chasing 107 against hosts Hong Kong, they reached the target in 4.3 overs without losing a wicket. Captain Abbas Afridi hit seven sixes in 55 not out from 13 balls before retiring, as the rules require on reaching 50, The News reported. Khawaja Nafay added 34 not out from 10 balls.
Why people are searching
The Hong Kong Sixes returned in 2024 after a seven-year break, and Pakistan are the defending champions after beating Kuwait in the 2025 Cup final. India also played this year, so many Indian fans have followed the tournament closely. With India's campaign over, interest has moved to the remaining finals, and a Pakistan match on a Sunday morning in India was always likely to draw searches.
There is also the format itself. This year each side fields seven players, and every innings lasts six overs. Every fielder except the wicketkeeper bowls one over, with one bowler allowed a second over that is not consecutive. A batter must retire not out on reaching 50, but can return if one of the last pair is dismissed. Scores above 100 are common and chases are very fast.
The squads
Oman are led by Aamir Kaleem, with Sami Hassan keeping wicket, and also include Mohammed Al Balushi, Muzahir Raza, Shafiq Jan, Usman Ali and Zohaib Amanat. Pakistan, captained by fast bowler Abbas Afridi, field Abdul Samad, Ahmed Daniyal, Irfan Khan, wicketkeeper Khawaja Nafay, Muhammad Shahzad and Saad Masood.
