Why Suzlon Energy Shares Fell to a 52-Week Low After Its Q2 Results
Suzlon Energy shares fell nearly 10% to a 52-week low on Friday after its September-quarter results. Revenue rose 26%, but reported profit dropped 69% and margins narrowed. Here is what the numbers show and why so many people are searching.

What happened
Suzlon Energy, the Pune-based wind turbine maker, reported its results for the July–September quarter (Q2 FY27) after the stock market closed on Thursday. By Friday morning, investors had delivered their verdict: the shares fell as much as 9.73% to a 52-week low of about ₹33.2, according to Business Today, Mint and Live Hindustan. The stock had closed at ₹36.79 the day before.
At first glance the headline numbers look contradictory. Revenue grew 26% to ₹4,869 crore, which Mint attributed to record wind turbine deliveries. Yet consolidated net profit fell 69% to ₹394 crore, from ₹1,279 crore a year earlier.
Why the profit looks so much lower
Most of the drop is an accounting comparison rather than a collapse in the business. In the same quarter last year, Suzlon booked a one-time deferred tax benefit of ₹891 crore, which inflated that quarter's profit. ET Now and Dainik Jagran reported that, excluding this item, comparable profit actually rose by about 1.3%.
Why people are searching
The bigger worry for the market was profitability on each sale. EBITDA, a measure of operating profit, was almost unchanged at about ₹720 crore, even though revenue rose sharply. That means the EBITDA margin narrowed to about 14.8% from 18.6%. According to Business Today, JM Financial attributed the decline mainly to a higher share of lower-margin engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work.
Several other factors added to the search interest:
- A widely held stock. Public shareholders held about 54% of the company at the end of September, according to Dainik Jagran, so a sharp fall affects a very large number of small investors.
- A long slide. Mint noted the shares are down about 46% from their November 2025 high of ₹61.45, although they are still up roughly 455% over five years.
- Brokerage revisions. Live Hindustan and Dainik Jagran reported that several brokerages lowered their price targets after the results, with ratings ranging from "hold" to "buy".
- Institutional selling. Dainik Jagran reported that foreign institutional holdings slipped to 23.63% from 24.15%, and domestic institutional holdings to 10.24% from 11.12%, over the quarter.
What comes next
The key question for Suzlon is whether it can turn strong order execution into better margins over the next few quarters. According to Live Hindustan, brokerages pointed to higher commodity prices, currency swings and spending on the company's "Suzlon 2.0" plans as pressures on margins. The company's full results and investor presentation are available on its investor relations page.
