What happened
After several shifts in its release date, Trivikram Srinivas's new Telugu film, Aadarsha Kutumbam House No. 47, finally reached cinemas on Friday, 30 October. Its short form, AK 47, has done a lot of the work in search and on social media.
Venkatesh Daggubati plays the central character, with Srinidhi Shetty cast as his wife, The Times of India reported. Nara Rohith and Nivetha Pethuraj have important roles, and the supporting cast includes Rao Ramesh, Satya, Brahmaji and Vennela Kishore. The film is produced by Haarika & Hassine Creations.
According to estimates from the tracking site Sacnilk, cited by The Times of India, NDTV Profit and Filmibeat, the film collected Rs 9.50 crore net in India on its first day and Rs 16.65 crore gross worldwide, including Rs 5.50 crore from overseas. These are tracker estimates rather than producer figures, and another tracker, BOI24, puts the worldwide total lower at Rs 14.60 crore.
Why people are searching
- A star and director pairing. Fans of Venkatesh and Trivikram were waiting to see the result of the collaboration.
- Box office curiosity. Opening numbers were published on Saturday morning, and readers want to know whether the film is a hit.
- Mixed but steady reviews. The Hindu called the film "predictable yet entertaining", while NDTV described it as "a tried-and-tested story sans surprises".
What the critics said
The Hindu's reviewer, Sangeetha Devi Dundoo, wrote that the film marks Venkatesh's reunion with Trivikram as writer-director after more than two decades. The story follows a struggling middle-class family whose lottery win makes it the target of a criminal gang. She praised the twists before the interval and said Venkatesh "once again proves why he is among the best at leading Telugu family dramas". However, she found the later portions muddled and the songs forgettable. The film runs 149 minutes.
Where the audience came from
The Telugu states drove the opening. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed about Rs 9.25 crore of the Rs 11.15 crore India gross, followed by Karnataka at Rs 1.40 crore, according to the Sacnilk figures reported by NDTV Profit. The same report said occupancy rose through the day, from about 34 per cent in morning shows to about 62 per cent at night, with premium-format screens in Hyderabad selling out late shows.
